The Palisades fire is in the news again. Last January I took several hours and read about the role of the Santa Ynez Reservoir.
Despite other uses of the word “reservoir,” this one is a small man-made pond with a cover. It was never open for recreation. It does not store water from California’s wet season. It is more or less a tank of drinking water.
The cover was damaged and Santa Ynez was out of service until it could be repaired using the city’s slow open bidding process. It is back in service now.
