The EIA’s Short-Term Energy Outlook that arrived in my email recently has this chart showing planned retirements and additions in eight regions.
Consulting engineers should know whether a project’s location is in a region where power plant retirement capacity is less than additions.
The first four regions on this chart have more additions than retirements.
The last four have the opposite situation, more retirements than additions.
The retirements are almost all gas and coal plants. The additions are a mix of all sources listed in the legend: solar, natural gas, coal, wind, nuclear, and hydropower.
